Roderick J Hill
Rod Hill is a retired CSIRO Chief Research Scientist, Division Chief, Group Executive and Corporate Business Development Manager in the mineral resources and manufacturing sectors of CSIRO. His most recent role was as Pro Vice Chancellor for Industry Engagement and Commercialisation at Monash University. He has PhD and DSc degrees from the University of Adelaide in the area of crystal chemistry and single crystal and powder diffraction analysis.
He has published widely in the international scientific literature, mostly in the fields of oxide and silicate crystal chemistry, EHMO molecular orbital theory to explore the structural systematics and electron density distributions of silicates, X-ray and neutron single crystal and powder diffraction, data collection optimisation techniques for X-ray Rietveld analysis, and lead acid battery technology. The mineral Hillite was named after him in 2003. He is an avid "chaser" of total solar eclipses.
