Rong Fan
Dr Rong Fan leads the Diffraction, Mineralogy and Geochemistry team across the Clayton and Waite sites at CSIRO Mineral Resources. His work focuses on X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) characterisation across a broad range of mineral systems, with particular expertise in quantitative mineral analysis, clay mineralogy and critical minerals research. He has more than 20 years of experience applying advanced characterisation approaches to problems in mineral processing, hydrometallurgy, geochemistry, acid and metalliferous drainage, mineral surfaces and mineral exploration. His recent research activities include clay-hosted rare earth element (REE) systems, critical mineral characterisation and geometallurgy, with emphasis on understanding mineralogical controls on processing behaviour and metal recovery. His research involves extensive use of synchrotron-based techniques, including bulk and microprobe X-ray diffraction and X-ray absorption spectroscopy, at Australian and international synchrotron facilities.
