Vanessa K Peterson

Prof Vanessa Peterson is a Senior Principal Research and Neutron Instrument Scientist at the Australian Centre for Neutron Scattering (ACNS) and an Honorary Professorial Fellow at the University of Wollongong. Vanessa leads the “Functional Materials for Sustainable Systems and Devices” research project from within the ACNS. Vanessa specializes in atomic and molecular scale material characterization methods to understand function, particularly using real-time neutron and X-ray scattering. Vanessa has focused primarily over the last decade on materials central to sustainable-energy systems, including materials for battery, fuel-cell, and gas separation technologies, and she has pioneered neutron and X-ray scattering techniques to study these materials that provide a fundamental understanding of how to improve them. With more than 150 publications, over 5200 citations (including 12 publications with > 90 citations), and an h-index of 40, Prof Peterson is recognized internationally.
